Allison K. Divers, M.D.

Allison K. Divers, M.D., is certified by the American Board of Dermatology, trained in medical, surgical and aesthetic dermatology. She is a native of Roanoke, Virginia and moved back to her home town, where all her immediate family reside, after finishing her dermatology residency at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Dr. Divers was a registered nurse prior to attending Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, Virginia, and knows that her nursing experience was invaluable to the physician she has become.
In addition to ministering to her patients’ dermatologic needs in her daily practice, she believes very strongly in supporting basic science dermatology research, and is a member of the Dermatology Foundation, Leaders Society. The Bradley Free Clinic of Roanoke Valley is near and dear to her heart, as she has a living history with the clinic. She first volunteered there when she was a Hollins College student, then as a nurse, and now as a dermatologist, both directly and via Project Access for the under served.

To enjoy her love of art, you need only to visit her office. Her eye for art compliments her aesthetic talents in serving her patients. It is the creative dimension that replenishes. As a dermatologist her primary training, continuing education, daily practice and all professional efforts are dermatology focused. Skin care is her ‘soul’ practice.

Dr. Divers provides diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of skin diseases, and especially enjoys the surgical treatment of skin cancer. Early detection and treatment of skin cancer is key, as is a life-long commitment to protecting your skin from the sun's wonderful but skin harming ultraviolet rays.

Patricia R. Carlton, NP

Patricia R. Carlton, as a nurse practitioner, is a vital member of our skin care team. She has been physician-trained and educated in such areas as acne, rosacea, and laser skin medicine. She has a well developed eye and mind for assessing skin types and for both intellectually and intuitively making sound judgments as to how a particular patient's skin will react to a particular laser or light device. Trisha is board certified by The National Certification Corporation and in the past practiced as a neonatal intensive care nurse practitioner. That experience provided her with an appreciation of the body's largest organ, the skin. In a baby born very prematurely, the skin has not reached its fully developed functional state and this results in multiple risks for the baby during that early period. Dr. Divers appreciates having such a gifted board certified nurse practitioner whom she knows she can trust to provide competent and compassionate care for patients.

Dana M. Abney, NP

Dana Abney is the newest addition to our team. As a nurse practitioner she has been physician-trained in general dermatology by Dr Divers to see patients for various dermatologic conditions such as acne, rosacea, eczema, psoriasis, warts, molluscum, photodamage, actinic keratoses (pre-cancers), biopsy and removal of skin lesions, and more. Dana is board certified by the National Certification Corporation, and prior to joining us, practiced as an obstetric and gynecologic nurse practitioner. Her expertise in women’s gynecologic care nicely complements her dermatologic training, as there are gynecologic-dermatologic conditions that cross specialties. She is well trained in hormonal therapies that beautifully extend to treatment of some dermatologic conditions such as acne, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), and lichen sclerosis. Her training, as with all professionals, is ongoing, and she functions both independently and as an extension of Dr Divers, collaborating with her as the case warrants. As usual, it is all about teamwork to provide the best care for our patients. Dr Divers welcomes Dana as a new bright mind and heart to the practice.
